DA.LINK CAREER TALKS: WEDNESDAY SESSIONS

da.link career servicesThe da.link career services team invites DA alumni working in international jobs as well as HR professionals from International Organisations, the EU, the public sector, international business and NGOs to talk to students about application requirements, selection procedures, concrete tasks and career opportunities in their own particular fields of employment.

These career talks take place every Wednesday. As an example, there are da.link career talks about the selection procedure for the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, about internships in various Austrian ministries, about career opportunities in international organisations, various job opportunities in the EU, in EU institutions and agencies, as well as about careers in international banking and consulting.

Interessenvertretungen sind die zentralen Vermittler zwischen Politik und Gesellschaft und dabei zugleich Anwälte ihrer Mitglieder und Berater politischer Entscheidungsträger. Ohne Interessenvertretungen als Informationsdrehscheiben wäre eine evidenzbasierte und zielgruppengerechte Politikgestaltung unmöglich. In dieser Hinsicht nehmen Interessenvertreter ähnliche Aufgaben für ihre Interessengruppen wahr wie es Diplomaten für die Regierungen und Bürger ihres Landes tun. Am Beispiel der Industriellenvereinigung, einer der größten Interessenvertretungen in Österreich, sollen Einblicke in den Alltag eines Interessenvertreters gegeben sowie Qualifikationsvoraussetzungen und Karrieremöglichkeiten diskutiert werden.

Tobias Birsak ist seit 2019 Referent der Industriellenvereinigung Wien und Geschäftsführer der Jungen Industrie Wien. Davor war er Trainee im Bereich „Internationale Beziehungen“ der Industriellenvereinigung. Tobias hat Rechtswissenschaften in Wien und Nottingham (UK) studiert und ist Absolvent der Diplomatischen Akademie Wien (M.A.I.S.)

17 FEB 2021: DA ALUMNUS LUCAS STEIGBERGER ON WORKING In SALES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Lucas studied modern world history at UBC Vancouver, Canada. After graduating in 2015, he moved to Vienna where he worked as a Junior Programme Manager for an aeronautical engineering firm.  Lucas then joined the DA in 2016 and graduated  from the MAIS programme in 2018. After graduation, Lucas completed his compulsory military service and subsequently was offered a position in an engineering consultancy, where he is currently employed, and is studying industrial engineering on the side.

He will speak about his career path so far and share his advice. As always there will be time for Q&A.

03 FEB 2021: DA ALUMNI DANIEL REINHARDT AND KONSTANTIN EROL ON WORKING IN RENEWABLE ENERGY

Daniel Reinhardt is a Sales and Investment Manager at Swimsol, a Vienna based solar energy SME with the mission to transform the electricity production in the worlds tropical island and coastal regions. Daniel has an academic background in Economics and Political Science, and graduated from the DA MAIS Programme in 2015. Before joining Swimsol, he worked at several diplomatic missions and chambers of commerce, as well as for the think tank Club of Rome in Switzerland.

Konstantin Erol graduated from the ETIA Program at the Diplomatic Academy in 2015. His academic background is Industrial Engineering. Konstantin has been working for several years developing one of Austria's biggest wind farms. Since then, Konstantin has been in charge for starting and growing a PV-venture within Püspök. Based on EU's ambitious climate goals Photovoltaics will become a major technology in Austria's energy mix up until 2030.

Daniel and Konstantin will speak about their careers and will give advice on opportunities for DA students in the renewable energy sector. They will be happy to answer your questions.

27 JAN 2021: DA ALUMNUS SEVERIN BROUCEK ON CAREERS IN FINANCE

Severin Broucek holds a Degree in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of Vienna, graduated from the DA’s 37th Diploma course and holds an EMBA of Ashridge University. He joined Deutsche Bank as graduate trainee in 2001 and since then held several positions across corporate banking, corporate finance, COO and business management. He is currently Head of Corporate Coverage CEE
During his talk, he will speak about: 
- recent changes in the Financial Services industry
- impact on employment opportunities for DA graduates
- potential career paths around international experience, Finance know-how and unique skill-sets

20 JAN 2021: DA ALUMNUS KONSTANTIN KRAUS ON A CAREER IN FINTECH

Konstantin is an alumnus of the DA's 7th ETIA programme. He leads the institutional client business of Bitpanda and will give an introduction to digital assets and how the 2020 crypto bullrun is different to 2017.  Bitpanda is the leading digital investment platform with 280 employees in Vienna. The firm raised the largest series A of 2020 in Europe (52m USD) from Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures and Speedinvest.

13 JAN 2021: DA ALUMNUS DAVID LANSKY ON A CAREER IN CONSULTING

Life after the DA offers numerous options for careers. While some alumni develop their careers in international organizations or in the diplomatic sector, others focus on areas beyond that such as public sector strategy consulting. In this talk I want to give you some insights into the work of a public sector strategy consultant and answer any questions you may have concerning contents of the work, the work-life balance behind consulting and possible entry points should this be a career you are considering. I look forward to meeting you all. 

THE SPEAKER:

David Lansky has been a Senior Consultant at EY Parthenon since June 2020. He works primarily with public institutions and non-profit organizations on strategic and organizational issues. Prior to this, he was assistant to the board of the Country Managing Partner of EY Austria, legislative advisor to a member of the Austrian parliament and a tax assistant at Deloitte Austria. He holds degrees in economics and law from the Vienna University of Economics and Business with a special focus on the management of non-profit organizations (LL.B.) as well as in international relations from the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (MAIS). He is also President of Club DA, the alumni Network for all Alumni of the diplomatic academy.

02 DEC 2020: DA ALUMNUS OLIVER AUTHRIED ON CAREERS WITH UNIDO

Oliver has studied history at the University of Vienna. After completing his first Master he completed the ETIA programme. While studying at the DA, Oliver had the opportunity to work as tour guide at the United Nations office at Vienna, where he stayed until he started his job as Consultant at UNIDO, in the Office for Strategic Planning and Coordination. Currently, he works for the Department of Trade, Investment and Innovation (TII) in the Business Environment, Cluster and Innovation division.

Oliver will share his experience since joining UNIDO, will talk about his work and the organization, and will give some advice for the application process and employment opportunities.

Michaela Sehorz, Absolventin des 54. DLG hat einen Bachelor Literaturwissenschaften und Geschichte an der Universität Wien und ihr Masterstudium in International Relations in Nizza absolviert, bevor sie an der DA den Diplomlehrgang absolvierte. Im März 2019 wurde Sie in den höheren auswärtigen Dienst im BMEIA aufgenomme (bisherige Verwendungen II.9 (Amerika), V.3 (Wissenschaft und Religion), ÖB Agram (Stage während EU-Ratspräsidentschaft) und derzeit III.6 (EU-Erweiterung und Westbalkan)). Sie ist Sprecherin des aktuellen A-Préalablejahrganges 2018/19.

Frau Sehorz wird über Ablauf, Vorbereitung und Tipps zum A-Préalable und Arbeitsalltag von jungen DiplomatInnen im BMEIA sprechen.

Ms. Dana Bogdan graduated from the DA’s 3rd ETIA programme (2009-2011). During her talk, she will provide insights into the activities of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), as well as her early start in working for the Organization. 

Ms. Bogdan will share her experience on making the transition from the university campus to the world of diplomacy, multilateralism and the work of international organizations and will be providing her view on what assets, skills and values could be of help in this area. Her talk will also include brief information on programmes within the OSCE that may be of interest for students and fresh graduates. She will be happy to discuss with you more in depth during the da.link career talk.

11 NOV 2020: DA ALUMNA LEJDA TOCI ON CAREERS WITH UNODC

Lejda Toçi, alumna of the DA's 8th ETIA programme is Programme Officer at the UNODC Global Programme for Combating
Wildlife and Forest Crime. Her portfolio includes managing the work of the programme on fisheries crime, as well as being
the focal point for Europe and partnerships with organizations such as the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Before joining the UNODC, Ms. Toçi’s experience included working for the private sector, nongovernment
organizations in the areas of global security and environmental crime as well as the foreign service of Albania.

Ms. Toçi will explain her work trajectory from when she was studying at the DA until today and the most important takeaways for a new graduate based on her own experience. As always, there will be time for Q&A.

After having studied law he started his career as a trainee at the European Commission, became political assistant at the European Parliament and started as an EU Official in 1996. First he worked at the Internal Market DG and moved very quickly to the External relations where he has worked in Brussels, Jakarta (Indonesia), Dili (Timor-Leste), Yangon (Myanmar) and new Vienna where he is responsible for Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Press, Information and communication.

Ambassador Brix graduated from DA's 17th Diploma Programme (1980-1982). He also holds a PhD in History from the University of Vienna. During his talk he will give insights into his diplomatic career: he was - amongst other things- Director General for Foreign Cultural Policy at the Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, Austrian Ambassador to the UK and Austrian Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Director Brix will share his experience in the diplomatic field with you and let you know about assets and steps for a career in the diplomatic service. He will be happy to answer further questions you might have.

Following an international career in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development, at renowned employers in for-profit and public sector organisations, Neha founded the workplace atelier, an innovative space that focusses on providing HR services in change management bricolage. Neha Chatwani graduated in Psychology from the University of Vienna and holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Grenoble Ecole de Management. She is a published author in her field and a certified coach as well as change facilitator.
